Dzi: The Magic of Heavenly Beads
Share
New from Dakini: bracelets with Dzi beads.
In Tibet, Dzi stones are attributed with a positive spiritual effect, often serving as an amulet or being ground into a powder that is used in Tibetan medicine. Wearing beads and amulets is still an important part of Tibetan tradition, Dzi stones in particular are seen as protection against all kinds of illnesses and forms of misfortune.
The oldest Dzi stones that have been found date back to around 2000 BC, it is a mystery how these stones were made, only many centuries later Dzi stones were made by darkening natural agate by heating it with vegetable sugars and then bleaching and etching it with natron. Unfortunately these old Dzi's are no longer for sale anywhere and are passed on within the family from generation to generation.
Nowadays "new Dzi's" are mainly made in Taiwan with precision equipment, a complex and labor-intensive process.
New Dzis are not attributed with any mystical energies, but their positive power can be enhanced by blessing from a Lama or by taking them to sacred places such as stupas & temples.
