Thangka "White Tara" by Tibetan Buddhist Art. A thangka is a Tibetan Buddhist scroll painting. This thangka is a reproduction on canvas of the original thangka painted by Carmen Mensink. This high-quality reproduction is sewn in Nepal in brocade fabrics. This is done in a traditional way, including the 'curtain' to protect the thangka when it is transported, and ties and ribbons to hang it up.
White Tara is the Bodhisattva or the female Buddha of Longevity and is also called Dolkar or Drolkar in Tibetan. With the thangka you get a card with the mantra of White Tara on the front and the following English text on the back:
The White Tara practice can be done to prolong your life and to overcome life-threatening obstacles such as illnesses. Her practice can also be done on someone else's behalf. Another beautiful ritual is to offer a White Tara image to a newly born baby to wish he or she may have a long life ahead.
It is said that White Tara's seven eyes enable her to clearly 'see' all beings in the realms of existence. The right hand on her knee is in the gesture of Supreme Generosity, and in her left hand she holds a blue utpala lotus flower. Her hand mudras are similar to those of Green Tara.
White Tara is often depicted together with Amitayus and Ushnisha Vijaya; thesis being the "Three major longevity deities" in the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon.
The dimensions of the thangka are: top 38 cm, bottom 44 cm and length 60 cm. The reproduction is approximately 20 cm x 26.5 cm.
