Necklace Kondh

Necklace Kondh is made of small glass beads, a bronze ring and bronze leaves. Inspiration for this necklace was found with the Kondh, a tribe from East India. An old bronze ring forms the closure of this necklace. The Kondh wore many of these rings tied together in waist belts. At the end of the strands of glass beads are small bronze leaves, a traditional symbol of the Kondh.

The glass beads in the red necklace are so-called 'white hearts'. These beads have a white core. Surrounded by a layer of red glass. This old technique creates fine color nuances.

The old glass beads in the orange and creme necklace are called 'seed beads'. They are worn by tribal women from Orissa, a state in eastern India. Many of these tribal women wear almost no clothing. The body is covered with several strands of seed beads in many colors. The beads are even wrapped around the head.

The necklace consists of 6 strands of which the longest strand is 75 cm. The ring has a diameter of 2.2 cm and the necklace can be closed by passing all the strands through the ring.
